When Summertime hits, what’s better than having a nice meal outside.  Enjoying beautiful weather (maybe a nice view), and delicious food sounds like a great time to me.

Then you remember you have kiddos.  And when going out to eat, it requires a little extra planning.

  • Do they serve food the kids are going to like?
  • Is it a family friendly establishment???  (We’re not going somewhere my kids are going to be the loudest ones there)
  • What are we going to do to keep them entertained???
  • What snacks should we bring because of course they’re going to need something before their food comes?

MJ’s- Tinton Falls

Living at the Jersey Shore it seems like there MJ’s everywhere.  My family often went to the one in Neptune, because it was super close.  Then one day we decided to check out the one in Tinton Falls and it’s now one of our favorite places!  They have the regular menu, daily specials and also have a sushi menu. I love that they have sushi because we don’t really go out for Japanese with the kiddos because they don’t really like anything on the menu.  We also love that this location is situated on Overlook by the Falls, a beautiful waterfall. I didn’t even know it was there until seeing some Yelp reviews on MJ’s. They have indoor and outside seating with a great view of the falls. The food is consistently good and we’re always happy with the service.

Kelly’s- Neptune City

We love to visit Kelly’s when the weather is warm and we can enjoy their patio.  They have a very large menu with everything from sandwiches and salads to sushi, steak, and seafood.  The outdoor area has a large bar and there are a lot of picnic tables and benches along with a few high top tables.  One of my kiddos favorite parts is the large Koi pond, and we always try to get a table close-by. The atmosphere is casual and very family friendly.  The staff are always interacting with my kiddos, and usually bring out some food so they can feed the Koi. The portions are very generous and the kiddos love all the options on the kids menu.  Definitely one of our favorite summertime spots!

Porta– Asbury Park

My family has always loved coming to Porta.  The atmosphere is very casual and the food is always good.  Though sometimes the wait can get long, we find if we come for brunch, lunch, or an early dinner we usually don’t have to wait too long (or at all).  We usual sit inside (we come a lot in the colder months), but have recently started sitting outside and we love it. There are tons of tables with umbrellas and plenty of space for everyone to get comfy.  The pizza is so good and you have to try the nutella pizza, it is the best I have ever had! On Sundays the brunch is so good, the even have terrific mimosas specials!

Look for Part II

As I was writing this, I was thinking of more and more of our local favorites.  So instead of overwhelming everyone with one huge post I decided to break it down.  Look for Part II (and maybe more) of my family’s Favorite Summer Time Kid Friendly Jersey Shore Restaurants
